Without a doubt, 2018 goes in the books as one of the most remarkable years in IGNITE’s history. In the inaugural year of the Alumni Network, we launched an Alumni Ambassador program, hosted the first COACH Convention, connected alumni with mentors and continued fostering the political ambition of our members.
Alumni rallied to elect more women to political office, ran for office in their communities and stepped up as Canvas Captains to lead door-to-door voter registration drives across the country. Your energy and passion are awe-inspiring!
We’ve got awesome alumni programming planned for the next few months -- including in-person and online events designed to amplify your political leadership and professional career. Stay tuned on our alumni Facebook page and reach out if you have questions. We look forward to seeing you soon!
Audacious Alumni Who Ran in 2018
Mya Whitaker, ran for Oakland City Council
“Do not let anybody get in the way of chasing after your dreams, even if it is in politics. I ran for office because my community deserved to see change; we may not have won on the first shot, but we did change the status quo."
Jocelyn Yow, elected to Eastvale City Council
"I am honored and humbled to have the opportunity to serve the city I proudly call home. It was surreal, but powerful, seeing photos of myself on the dias with all the other councilmen. While I am proud to be the youngest and the first woman of color to be serving on the city council, it is also my obligation to ensure I am not the last."
Caitlin Quinn, elected to Petaluma Board of Education
“Running for office as a 25-year-old was exhausting, inspiring, and exhilarating. The people in Petaluma deserve a responsive and innovative school board and I am so humbled to have the opportunity to serve our students, staff, and community.”
