IGNITE is a movement of young women who are ready and eager to become the next generation of political leaders.
What is IGNITE?
As a young woman, Dr. Anne Moses, IGNITE’s Founder & President, watched as an all-male Senate judiciary committee eviscerated Anita Hill on national television. At that moment, she realized that until women have equal power, their rights will be ignored. After many years working in the women’s political space, it became clear to Anne that to achieve parity we must reach women younger, to build a pipeline of next-generation leaders who are ready to run for office.
And so she started IGNITE, to build political ambition when girls and young women are forming their identities and aspirations, and to forestall the fact that, without a significant intervention, the United States won’t reach gender parity for at least another century.
Since our inception in 2010, we have established powerful evidence that IGNITE’s model builds political ambition in young women. We have also learned that programming is not enough: we need inspiring messages consistently reinforced and reflected in our culture – words which convey and compel young women to be politically motivated, and to declare their political ambition.
It has never been more urgent for young women to own their political power. And there has never been a better time to make that happen. Please join IGNITE as we create a world where women own their fair share of political power.
Statement of non-partisanship
IGNITE is a non-partisan 501c3 that operates in the political realm. The following is a statement of IGNITE's guiding values and principles:
IGNITE encourages young women to actively engage in the political process and assert and demonstrate their beliefs in the public arena.
IGNITE encourages young women to advocate and lobby for issues they care about.
IGNITE believes young women should actively listen to the perspectives of people they agree with and those they disagree with, in order to clarify their own beliefs.
IGNITE values civil discourse as a means to understand others' viewpoints, clarify personal positions, and advocate for issues they care about.
IGNITE believes our democracy will be stronger when the United States reaches political parity with equal numbers of women in office across all political parties.
All activities undertaken by and for IGNITE will be in alignment with these guiding values and principles, in the spirit of promoting engagement in the political process. Therefore, IGNITE does not take positions on individual issues, rather IGNITE welcomes and supports all young women to determine which issues are important to them and where they sit on the political spectrum.
